EuroDNS Gets Mobile

EuroDNS launches a mobile version of its website (http://eurodns.mobi), essentially made for iPhone users, which enables a simplified and faster process for the registration of any domain names.
The mobile version has been created entirely based on EuroDNS’s existing interface and tools. Users will have the possibility to register any domain names and login into their EuroDNS account to perform renewals. The look and feel has been adapted to the iPhone’s default navigation elements.

Opening .LU IDN Sunrise

Luxembourg, February 1st, 2010 – EuroDNS is proud to announce the opening of the .LU Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) Sunrise period, starting today until March 31st.
The sunrise is open to all registrants who already own a .LU domain name. The IDNs give companies and individuals based in the European Union the chance to register domain names that contain non-Latin characters under the .LU domain.
As of today, domain name holders established outside Luxembourg do not longer need to give valid power of attorney to an agent established in Luxembourg for the registration and the management of their domain names.

.CN registrations suspended

CNNIC, the official registry for .CN, announced that all oversea registrars will no longer be allowed to register .CN domains starting on January 6th, 2010.

The registration stop is planned to be temporarily. CNNIC has not specified a date at which the exclusion of oversea registrars from .CN registrations will be removed again. The registry has announced to further explore methodologies on how to verify the registration information with their oversea partners. As soon as a new mechanism is established, CNNIC will re-open the registration.

IPv6 and the IDNs

Luxembourg, January 5th 2010 – The Luxembourg IPv6 Council has followed closely the introduction of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), especially the recent launch of the .eu IDN in December 2009.

The introduction of IDN will require more IP address space which is no more guaranteed by the remaining 10% of the IPv4 address pool expected to be depleted by 2011. IPv6 will therefore extend the needed IP address capacity for IDN deployment around the world.

The implementation of IDNs gives companies and individuals based in the European Union the chance to register domain names that contain non-Latin characters under the .eu domain. The .eu IDNs support the 23 official languages of the European Union as well as the entire alphabets.

It was important for the Luxembourg IPv6 Council to analyze the interaction and market adaptation of these IDNs in relation with the next-generation Internet Protocol version 6. It was also a major step forward for key players and domain name registrars to implement IPv6 within their technology.

Together with EuroDNS, one of the IDN domain registrars, the Taskforce was able to evaluate possible influences, and confirm that both the implementation and usability of IPv6 in relation with IDN domain names works as smoothly and easily as for non IDN domain names.

“IDNs & IPv6 are good room-mates to extend the Internet over and beyond current limited scale. EuroDNS has already implemented IPv6 for .eu IDN. This is a major milestone for the New Internet in the making” states IPv6 Forum President Latif LADID, based in Luxembourg.

.CN registrations suspended

The .CN Registry has taken the abrupt decision to no longer accept domain name applications from individuals. This follows the Chinese government’s recent decision to crackdown on anti-porn, anti-piracy, and to control the abuse of the .CN domain space by criminals.

Unforunately this move involves major changes in the .CN registry system. As a result we are sorry to announce that registration of new .CN domain names is suspended until the end January.

Our technical team is currently hard-working to adapt to these changes in the best possible way for our customers and will keep you updated during the month.

Current .CN Customers do not need to worry: existing .CN Domains remain accessible in your EuroDNS account and can still be safely renewed or updated.

EuroDNS has announced one month ago the opening of a pre-registration period for .eu Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), based on a first-come, first-served model. This gives companies and individuals based in the European Union the chance to register domain names that contain non-Latin characters under the .eu domain.

IDNs are domain names that contain non-Latin characters. Another important technical aspect is the impossibility to mix scripts or characters from different scripts/alphabets in a single IDN, as some characters can look so similar that they cannot be differentiated. EuroDNS is glad to announce the opening of the .CM Sunrise phase on June 15th 2009 at 9:00 UTC until July 14th 2009 at 23:59:59 UTC. .CM is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Republic of Cameroon. The Sunrise period allows all trademark owners to register at the earliest stage and thus protect their brand name in the .CM extension.

Xavier Buck, CEO of EuroDNS explains “We are proud to be part of the launch of the .CM extension. Central Africa does not provide many domain name extensions and this is a great opportunity to expand one’s portfolio. Another advantage is that people often forget to type the ‘o’ when looking for a .com domain name, and having your domain name in .CM could secure a lot of traffic and avoid any misleading use of your name”. During the Sunrise phase, the minimum registration period is 2 years and applicants must hold a valid and issued trademark at the time of application. If there is more than one valid Sunrise application for the same domain name, the name will be awarded to the registrant with the oldest registered trademark.
Each domain application costs 360 EUR with a non-refundable fee of 60 EUR, including a two years term.

The registry will then open the Landrush period from July 15th, 2009, 0:00:01 UTC until July 31st, 2009, 0:00:01 UTC, during which all applications will be subjected to a premium fee and an auction system, with a minimum registration time of 2 years. Indeed, in case there is more than one application per domain, the domain will go into an auction system that will be held shortly after the end of the Landrush period.
The price for each domain name application will be 260 EUR, including a two years term.
The Go Live will begin on August 1st, 2009 at 0:00:01 UTC. At this point .CM domains can be registered on a first come, first served basis. The minimum registration term is 1 year and the price will be announced soon. The price for the each Go Live registration is 80 EUR.

Czech Arbitration Court Ready to Handle CO.NL Doma

Amsterdam/Prague May 6th – After the successful launch of the .CO.NL extension, the CO.NL Operator is proud to announce that the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC) now provides Dispute Resolution for CO.NL Domains through its Online Dispute Resolution Platform.

.MX pre-registration phase opening May 1st

EuroDNS is glad to announce the start of the .mx pre-registration phase on the 1st of May 2009, during which all .mx subdomains such as .com.mx or .edu.mx will have registration priority for their corresponding .mx domain Name.

.mx is the first top level domain for Mexico, and it has just been re-opened by NIC Mexico to allow new registrations. The .mx extension is a great opportunity to open a new market in Mexico.

Xavier Buck, CEO of EuroDNS explains, “the reopening of the .mx is great news and the registry has published 3 different stages to register your .mx directly. Another interesting change is that, as of September 1, 2009, everyone eligible to register a .MX domain name will be entitled to register .MX domains at the second level.”

The Pre-Registration period will start on May 1 until July 31, 2009. During this phase, only the people who have registered before March 1st 2009 a so called “domain of origin”: com.mx, .net.mx, .org.mx, .edu.mx, or .gob.mx, can apply for the corresponding .mx domain name. The domain names already registered before May 1 will be blocked during this phase, which means they cannot be deleted or transferred.

All registrations during this phase will be for one year and cost 44 Euros.

The Waiting Period Phase will start on August 1 to 31. During the waiting stage, no new request will be received and only the pending requests will be processed. It will be possible to check requests from the first stage at www.whois.mx.

At the end of the waiting phase, the .mx domains assigned will be activated and the domains registered before March 1, previously blocked from being transferred or deleted, will be unblocked.

From September 1 to October 31 2009, the Initial Period of Registration will take place, during which any eligible person or organization interested can request a .mx domain name. A “first come, first served” basis will apply and the registration period will be for one year.

CO.NL Sunrise Opening at EuroDNS – Get 10 Years

Amsterdam, 9th February 2009 – EuroDNS is glad to announce the opening of the extended CO.NL Sunrise phase, starting tomorrow at 10:00 am GMT and ending on the 10th March, a great opportunity for all trademark holders to secure their CO.NL domain name. The .CO.NL operator has decided to innovate with an unprecedented Sunrise policy that will allow brand holders to fully benefit from their domain name’s usage. The finalized version of the Sunrise policy states that any registered trademark actively using its .CO.NL domain name will get an automatic renewal for ten years.

Amsterdam, 4th February 2009 – Following the successful .CO.NL Grandfather opening on November the 18th, the .CO.NL Operator is proud to announce its finalized Sunrise policy where any registered trademark actively using its .CO.NL domain name will get an automatic renewal for ten years.

The interest for .CO.NL has been on the rise during the first months of registration and trademark holders have shown great enthusiasm in this new international extension that offers them more visibility and flexibility. In response to brand holders’ concerns and questions, the .CO.NL operator has decided to innovate with an unprecedented Sunrise policy that will allow them to fully benefit from their domain name’s usage.

Sander Scholten, .CO.NL General Manager, explains “Research has shown that .CO.NL domains attract a lot of traffic from foreign countries such as, among others, the UK, India and Japan. WARNING - threats for .IT domain holders!

We would like to inform you that a large number of .IT domain holders have received letters from another entity, the so-called "Registro italiano in Internet per le imprese", which, through surface-mail mailings proposes a contract to adhere to in order to receive a service after payment.

The Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the CNR and the ccTLD .it Registry are not in the least involved with this initiative and they prepared again the necessary actions to protect any rights that might have been infringed. The Italian Competition Authorities (http://www.agcm.it) has repeatedly issued fines - for analogous initiatives as case in point of misleading messages - against DAD Deutscher Adressdienst.

WARNING - .BE False Payment Reminders

These reminders come from the company NMG (Network Mediagroup) located in London. They have the appearance of a real invoice and imply that the .BE holder has also registered his domain name with them in a number of other extensions (for example .net/.org/.com), and ask for quick payment.

Secure your .co.nl domain!

On November 18th it became possible to register .co.nl domain names, and until January 15th all current .NL domain names holders will be granted priority to secure the corresponding .co.nl domain.

The registration of .co.nl domains will be done in 3 steps. During the first Sunrise phase, named “Grandfather”, each holder of a .NL domain has the right to register an identical .CO.NL domain. Hence, the holder of www.yourdomain.nl is the only one who can register www.yourdomain.co.nl during these 8 weeks. The Grandfather period ends on January 15th and so will the right on priority.
A 16 days Sunrise phase will then follow the “Grandfather” period and provide priority for trademark holders, from any trademark registry worldwide.

On March 17th, CO.NL will open up completely and anyone will be able to register their name.co.nl without any restriction or need to establish previous right.

The standard price of a .co.nl domain registration is 14 euro at EuroDNS. During the Sunrise phases all domain applications will need to be checked by an independent validation agent (Deloitte) and a surcharge will apply on top of this standard price.

During the Grandfather period you will have the best chance to claim the .co.nl domains that match your .nl names. Hence, if you’re interested in securing your names with the .co.nl ending we recommend that you register these during this period. Applications can now be submitted in your standard EuroDNS account. CO.NL Grandfather period has started!

Dear Customer,

We are glad to announce the official CO.NL registration dates and prices for the Grandfather, Trademark Sunrise, Landrush and Go Live periods, which are also available at www.eurodns.com.

The CO.NL extension, which was announced last June, offers new possibilities for companies and individuals to get larger visibility and great international impact, with a Dutch flavor.

The CO.NL space is open to anyone, with no requirement of local presence or tie with the Netherlands. Several steps have been taken to ensure protection of third parties’ rights: if you currently have .NL Domain Names in your EuroDNS account, you can benefit from the dedicated Grandfather period.

But Grandfather is only the first part of the CO.NL Trademark proctection scheme, which goes as follows:

A Grandfather period, from the 18th November to the 15th January, which provides the holders of a “.nl” domain name a temporarily and exclusive right to register the same name with a “.CO.NL” ending. The set up fee for a domain name registered during Grandfather is 90 Euros in addition to 14 Euros per year (2 years minimum).

A Sunrise period is held for trademark holders, from the 10th February until the 26th February 2009, to give applicants the opportunity to register their brands as CO.NL names before the system is open to the general public. A Trademark domain can be registered with a set up fee of only 120 Euros, plus 14 Euros per year (2 years minimum), on the first come, first served basis.

Deloitte and Laga, frequent validation agents for other TLDs (including .EU and more recently .Asia), will use their expertise to assess your co.nl requests during the Grandfather and Sunrise Periods.

The Landrush starts on Tuesday 17th march until Tuesday 31st March 2009, and the Go Live period from Wednesday the 15th of April 2009 onward. These two last stages offer all applicants the opportunity to have their CO.NL domain name. The domain names registered during Landrush cost 16 Euros as a set up fee, with an additional 14 Euros per year (2 years minimum). The applicant will obtain the requested CO.NL domain name on a priority basis decided by the registrar. Each domain name registration during Go Live costs 14 Euros (1 Year minimum), and will be allocated on the first come, first served principle.

.TEL surging in the polls

EuroDNS welcomes strong customer interest for the extension.

Luxembourg 25th September, EuroDNS, being the first ICANN-accredited Registrar to sign up to distribute the new .tel domain is pleased to share some great figures and key findings about the perception and attractiveness of the upcoming .tel extension.

Telnic registry has just published a survey report on the perception of .tel from a selected group of corporate and end user representatives. The people polled first answered qualifying questions and watched a brief introductory video about .tel before filling in the market survey. The survey targeting end users polled 1053 individuals in the USA between 18 and 64 years old, from different social backgrounds, who use the Internet at least 1 hour per day. The findings show that 96% find the concept “clear and easy to understand” and 45% state that they would buy their own .tel domain name. Besides, 72% would like major corporations to buy their .tel brand names. On the corporate side, 678 key decision makers whose company already own a domain name with the .com, .biz, .net extensions were surveyed. 96% find the concept “clear and easy to understand” and 78% think .tel would be valuable for their business. 80% will also recommend their company to buy its own .tel domain.

.ME Open Registrations Period at EuroDNS starts!

July 16th - Tomorrow at 15:00 UTC, the .ME registry will start its Open Registration period, during which domain names will be available on a first-come, first-served basis on www.eurodns.com.

During the General Registration (Go Live!), the registry awards the .ME domain name to the first person who submits the domain. The applications made before the 17th July have been queued and will only be taken into account on the first day of the Go Live.

The registry notes that, “in preparation, we will be completely closed from July 16th at 17:00 UTC until Open Registration begins on July 17 at 15:00 UTC. During that closed period we will not be available via EPP or Web Admin Tool; the WHOIS will remain online throughout. Firewall change requests will not be accepted until July 18 at 15:00 UTC, and will then require the standard 1-2 business days for processing”.

Domainer Meeting Paris Success!

J+7 - The Domainer Meeting that was held at the heart of Paris on the 19th and 20th June, was a great success and achieved all expectations with more than 300 attendees and some high profile speakers and sponsors from the Domain Industry. This could not have happened without the presence, support and commitment of all sponsors, partners, speakers and attendees.

Fraudulent emails "Registro italiano in Internet"

Important information - a number of users have received letters from another entity, the so-called "Registro italiano in Internet per le imprese", which, through surface-mail mailings, (seemingly to ask the verifications of the data dealing with user activities) proposes a contract to adhere to in order to receive a service after payment.

The Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the CNR and the ccTLD .it Registry are not in the least involved with this initiative and have prepared again the necessary actions to protect any rights that might have been infringed.

The Italian Competition Authorities (http://www.agcm.it) has repeatedly issued fines - for analogous initiatives as case in point of misleading messages - against DAD Deutscher Adressdienst.

Luxembourg, 5th May - The General Sunrise and Landrush Periods for .ME domainsstart today on EuroDNS website and will last 30 days, during which domain .ME registry will begin accepting the .ME applications of trademark owners and the public at large.

EuroDNS is an accredited .ME registrar and its website is now ready to receive all applications. Xavier Buck, CEO of EuroDNS explains “.ME is the new extension for Montenegro and is expected to be utilized as both a personalized Web address and as a catchy business marketing tool around the world. The Sunrise period is restricted to trademark holders only and Landrush is unrestricted. We have been accredited by the .ME registry and our platform is now open for both types of application”.

During Sunrise and Landrush, multiple parties will be allowed to submit applications for the same domain name. The domain names that receive more than one application will go to an auction process. The Sunrise auctions will be held from 20th May to 6th June, and the Landrsuh auctions form 26th June to 15th July. In September, the Premium Names will go into auction. Monday 28th April - .ME is the new extension for Montenegro and the general Sunrise period will start on the 6th May. EuroDNS is an accredited .ME registrar and will open its site to .ME applications on the same date.

The registry will begin accepting .ME domain applications in May, for the start of what is known as the General Sunrise Period, a time when only trademark owners can apply. DotAsia Landrush Auction starts!

22nd April 2008 - The Landrush auction process has just started for .Asia domain names and any customers, who have applied for a .Asia domain going through the auction, can now bid from the AsiaDNS website.

Any domain name that has been ordered during the Landrush phase might have entered the "open auction" process. If this is the case, the order will stay pending until the auction is over. In some other cases, for example when nobody has placed a bid during the auction, the domain might become available again after it has passed the auction phase.

Regarding the pending DotAsia Domains that have not gone through the auction yet, they will be scheduled by the registry in the following weeks. The applicants will be informed by email.

Xavier Buck, CEO of EuroDNS explains how the auction process works, “Customers have received or will receive notification emails about their domain names going into auction. An auction will last for 7 days and if there are no bids the domain might enter the GoLive phase. In case a participant bids, the auction will be prolonged for another 24 hours.

Customers can bid through the EuroDNS new interface via the main navigation bar on the left side, by clicking on ‘Asia Auctions’. They will then be able to see their account and all the information related to .Asia domain auctions: ‘open auctions’, ‘upcoming auctions’, and ‘auction history’.

The participants using the EuroDNS interface can bid freely and will be invoiced only after they have placed their final bid. The payment methods that can be used are: Credit Card, EuroDNS Credit Account or Bank / Wire transfer”.

Frequently asked questions about .Asia domains:

- Why is a domain displayed as free although it’s taken?
The 'whois like service' provided by the Asian registry only displays the domains that allocated or registered, not the ones that are still in process (= are in auction, or have been reserved during another launch phase, etc). - When will the domain I ordered during Sunrise/Landrush be registered?
This depends on the Asian registry and if there will be upcoming auctions.
You will receive email notifications about the states of your domains by the entities in charge (EuroDNS, the Asian registry and Pool.com) as soon as there's news about the proceedings of your applications. - The GoLive phase started, what about the domains I ordered during Sunrise/Landrush?
The start of the GoLive phase doesn’t affect the pending domains that have been ordered during an earlier launch phase.

- Why is my domain still in ‘Ready for submission’ status?
If this status lasts for some hours the domain is in most cases already taken or reserved.

Tuesday, March 18th – After extensive beta-testing, EuroDNS launches its 2.0 website with a wealth of new features and improved services. Thought from the ground up to facilitate Domain Name Registrations even more, the site provides enhanced ergonomy with an attractive look and feel. Did you know that you can even apply for generic terms now?
The so-called Sunrise 2B has started, which means that Trademarks applied for, on or before Dec 6, 2006 from around the world are now accepted. For example, if you created trademarks especially for the .eu Sunrise, you can use them now again, since the country in which the Trademark is registered does not matter.
And now the special is coming: Register your Mark in combination of a Generic Word describing your business, the DotAsia Registry allow this in their rules. So if you are in Realestate business and your Trademark is ABC you are allowed to register ABCRealesate.asia or ABC-Realestate.asia or RealestateABC.asia or what ever the registry accept... Even combination of 2 or more Marks is possible.
Also, if you operate a Registered Entitiy in Asia such as a company or an organization you are allowed to apply for the name as well, but the entity must be located somewhere in the asian Region.
If you trademarked your domain name with the Top Level Domain (ie EuroDNS.com) you are now allowed to register the name itself, omitting the TLD (eurodns.asia).

Cybersquatting is the practice of registering and using a domain name containing someone’s trade name or a similar-sounding name with the intent of selling it back to the owner of the trademark or brand name at an inflated price.

“Basically, a cybersquatter holds your domain name hostage, and you usually have to pay that person quite a significant sum of money,” said Schiwek. “Complainants have legal recourse in some cases, but that also means headaches as well as financial pain. This is why Trademark holders should act now and register while they benefit from the head-start given by Sunrise Periods: It is safer and more cost-effective to head off cybersquatters by going through the domain registration process.” .ASIA is the new top-level domain that allows for domain names encompassing the entire Asia/Pacific region, from Turkey to Japan. The next phase of the “Sunrise” (SR) early registration process, the SR2b, SR2c and SR3 periods, launched on November 13, 2007. “Asia represents 60 percent of the world population and 45 percent of Internet users,” said Schiwek. “So these new domains provide the opportunity to reach millions of people in booming economies.” Interested parties can visit AsiaDNS.com or the recently redesigned EuroDNS Web site to determine if their preferred domains are still available. Applying for Sunrise validation involves a nonrefundable fee of 90 euros, while the annual fee for a .asia domain is 18 euros. Through a partnership with the discount travel site Asia.com, EuroDNS/AsiaDNS will also provide successful applicants with .asia.com third-level domains at no extra cost until the landrush phase of the Sunrise registration. “Almost two years ago, we witnessed an enormous run on .eu domains when they became available, and the same thing is happening right now with .asia.com domains,” said Schiwek. “Many trademark holders have protected their brand and business names by taking advantage of the ‘Sunrise’ registration period for the new .ASIA identity to claim appropriate top-level domains, but other businesses may find their rightful domains in competitors’ hands if they don’t act fast.” Potential registrants can sign up for their domains at http://www.asiadns.com or http://v2.eurodns.com.
